Health of the cats

In September, as every year we tested all our cats for FIV and FeLV. Along with that we also ran blood test for Elmirka, Helen, Dziabąg and Whisper to control their health condition. With all the girls all the parameters were fine but with Dziabąg I was a bit concerned about levels of potassium and creatinine (renal parameter). Until today we counly coud feel little moves in the belly. On Monday we got to see little aliens of Helen on ultrasound. Today we finally managed to get more in touch. According to our suspections, our family enlargerd by kittens of litter M. Helen did really well with delivery even while it was her first kittens. Thai Cattery Viosna*PL for years remains free from dangerous diseases such as Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV) and Feline Leukemia (FeLV). All our cats, including Cody, are also free from a genetic disorder causing a Progressive Retinal Atrophy that leads to complete blindness. Over a week ago, on Friday morning 1st of April, Elmirka ran to our bed and she desperately wanted to stay with Whisper and her kittens. We suspected what that means but we expected that a bit later. After few hours we welcomed kittens from litter L. Elma delivered two beautiful girls and one boy. We think one of the females will be more like her daddy and have seal tabby points. Finally came the day for eye surgery of our little Illy. Since September Illy stays at her new home in Bydgoszcz and I see her occasionally at the clinic for regular prophylactic deworming. But this time we were suppose to spend together the entire day. In the morning Illy was a little bit unhappy – because she was hungry, but anyway she got in the car with us and traveled to Warsaw.  Thai cattery Viosna*PL is free from diseases: Feline Leukemia (FeLV) and Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV). Our cats and their offspring are also negative for gene causing PRA - progressive retinal atrophy that results blindness. These year once again we did control tests for Feline Leukemia and FIV. Today kittens from litter I had their last vaccination before leaving for new homes. Another one will have to be done after a year from now. We want to create the best conditions for all our cats. It not only means enough toys, beds, cat trees or full food bowl and lot of our time. We also try to make the best and non-stressful atmosphere during those less pleasant procedures that need to be done. We are proud to announce that cats in our cattery Viosna*PL are free from genetic disease called in short PRA or PRD. Full name of it in English is Progressive Retinal Atrophy or Progressive Retinal Degeneration. It's caused by genetic defect and was diagnosed in many breeds of dogs and cats. In cats it's most common to apear in siamiese, thai, korat, abisinian, somalian and others (in different breeds it can be inherited in a different way). Yesterday right before 6:00 p.m. everything started! Phone call from huby, that Whisper probably starts. Last patients at the clinic, I finish taking them, get my keys, drive home. On my way few more calls from husband. My car cannot fly, can't jump over the red lights. Helenka in her carruer on a passanger seat doesn't really get it.
