Visiting Karamba

Last weekend I was at PSLWMZ (Polish Small Animals Veterinary Association) congess in Łódź and while I stayed there I got a chance to visit our two girls – Karamba and Matylda. Today You can read about how the first one is doing. Soon I will add review from the other visit.

When I reached Karamba and her family, she first sniffed my hands, shoes and bag very carefully. She also spend some time checking out my bracelet. She had to have one of her little talks while she did it. Some of the scents should be known to her but some new were added since she left, for ex. Cody’s. I got and impression she remembers something but she seemed confused. I gave her some time before I decided to pet her. Later as I talked with her family she came to smell my clothes and hair. She stayed around on the couch, from time to time playing with the feathers I got for her.

Some time after Karamba left for her new family, she was called Lucy and it stayed that way. When we had litter L in the cattery I also considered that name because of my interest in S.C. Lewis novel “The Chronicles of Narnia”. But I found it hard to think about her different than Karamba. I will need some time to get used to it.

Lucy moved to Łódź last year and since then she has grown up. She has soft and nice fur, with very good contrast. Points in seal color are very intense with good border line . Karamba – Lucy has very intense big blue eyes, which are a bit wider set than the rest of out kittens and cats in the cattery. It makes her special and one of a kind.

There are also things that make the fact where she was born unquestionable. When I played with her during my visit I’ve noticed some gestures and behaviors that I know from Whisper. Lucy as well as her mom also likes naps with people during the day. She can cuddle all she wants then. During the night she also keeps her family company. As Whisper she doesn’t wake anyone before the alarm clock, but when it calls she lets everybody know it’s time to get up. Whisper got a bit lazy about that lately, but Lucy saved her owners form being late to work couple of times.

Karamba (it will take some time for me to get use to her new name) still is fond of Cosma snacks (dried meat). All our kittens are like this in the cattery. Cupboard where the snacks are kept is called the crying wall, because she sits in front of it and “cries” for a snack (or just sits and stares meaningfully). I had a chance to feed her some snacks. She took it as she did in the cattery (same way as Elmirka and Helen do) – by holding and pulling my hand to her mouth.

She still has this love for the feather toys as she used to have when she stayed with us. But sometimes the other side of the toy seems more interesting to play with. I also found out that when no one’s watching she plays with bottle caps. When someone sees her, she stops. She also likes to have fun with ear buds which she put under the carpet in the bathroom as some sort of game. I also got some photos showing that Lucy has some interest in technology (although movies and cat games on youtube are not that interesting for her).

Lucy can vent her energy thanks to Jaś – son of her owners, who is like a sibling to her. They chase each other around the house together, poke each other and complain on each other too! Because Karamba is a great talker, she has lots of different sounds/words and is very communicative. As I heard everybody are surprised that a cat can talk this much.

Karamba vel Lucy doesn’t really like to be carried around but she sometimes jumps on hands or back. I got a chance to find out about it when I was getting ready to leave. There is a wardrobe in the hallway and she probably wanted to get on top of it. I suspected what was going to happen before she jumped on me, because back home Elmirka and Whisper behave the same way when they want to be picked up and put on the door. She looked and me and behaved as they do and jumped on my hands. But before I put her on the wardrobe I took a chance for a photo together. Only after that she got where she wanted to be in the first place.

It was hard to say goodbye and I felt sorry that Tomek couldn’t join me for this visit. he was very attached to Karamba when she was still with us. But I hope this wasn’t our last meeting and we will see each other again. Not only Karamba but also her wonderful family.
