Review from International Cat Show in Toruń – September 2017

Last weekend, we went to Toruń for cat show, according to plan. Cody finally started his career as an adult. We hoped to start it much earlier. he was suppose to debut on World Show first part of this year. But because our girls were pregnant we let it go back then. But what is delayed is not lost and finally our first tomcat got his first notes as an “man”.

Girls continued their titles from previous shows where Elmirka finished European Champion and started collecting judges notes for Grand International Champion. In Lithuania got her last diploma for International Championa and first one for Grand International Championa. Now it was time for another evaluations in Toruń.

On saturday we left in such a hurry that we’ve forgot Elma’s and Helen’s cat booths for the cages, we just took one hammock. Everything else was already prepared earlier so we only packed it in the car. But the girls used their booths so we didn’t take it from them before and somehow we missed the fact those were not with ther rest of the things. We couldn’t allow this kind of discomfort that comes when they don’t have a place to sleep at the show. So we fixed that… by buying them a new booth at the show. On the same occasion we just couldn’t resist not to buy a new feather toy and especially for Helen – ribbons, cuz she loves all the strings 😉

This time the girls and Cody spent time in separate cages – we were worried about unplaned mating (especially that Elma and Helen expect to be in heat any day and we rather plan next litter for December than November 😉 ).

First day of the show was efficient for out trinity, cuz everyone got excellent (EX1) note in their class. Cody, Elma and Helen were evaluated by judge from Latvia. Mrs. Vija Klucniece spoke very good about our cats. She praised her contrast which is still very good despite her age. With Helen she really liked the eyes – big enough with great shape. Cody was complemented about coat texture (soft, short, dense).

On Saturday judge froma Latvia also appraised cats in seal point color in Best In Variety competition. Elmirka was compared with another girl from cattery Smart Sara – Jolie. Although both are not related  (Jolie comes from Estonia and Elma was born in our house) they really look alike. Kind of “copy-paste” sisters 🙂 But Mrsi Klucniece admitted Best In Variety to our Elma.

Cody received nomination for Best In Show, where he was compared with four other males in joined groups IV and V. Unfortunately he didn’t go further but he still got a small trophy for nomination 🙂

Sunday show started different than usual. At first – because we remembered to take cat booths 😉 (we went home for the night). Later it turned out our trinity was separated for evaluation. Helen was suposse to be checked by judge Krzysztof Wycichowski froma Poland and Elmirka with Cody went to the judge Natalia Rozkova from Estonia.

In World Cat Federation thai cats belong to IVth group (out of five). At the shows usually cats are evaluated according to group sequence. As a result our breed goes to the judges in the end. But this time – surprise – Helen went to judge Wycichowski in the morning and got her note. Other cats had to wait for their turn with other judge 😉

Before evaluation by judge Rozkowa, Elmirka participated in WCF Ring. In this kind of competition all the cats signed in can take part. Judge who carries on the ring has to choose only 10 cats he/she likes the most according to breed standard. This time there were 22 cats participating. Among others: russian blues, egyptian mau, abissynian, canadian sphynx, siberian, british shorthair, scottish fold and scottish straight. Also Meine Coon and thai Elmirka. Judge Natalia Rozkova was leading WCF Ring and she admitted Elma Xth place in the competition.

After the ring it was time for the actual individual evaluation. This time Mrs Rozkowa decided to compare all the cats in seal point no matter the sex or age.

And so Cody was competing with Elma and other thai cats in the same color. Among others Jolie from cattery Smart Sara (copy-paste “sister” of Elma), girl Faren from cattery Amelia*PL. This time judge admitted BIV to Jolie.

In individual evaluation Cody received EX1 what means he received second diploma for Champion. Now he just misses one more note EX1 from third judge, so he can get his very first title. In October we will try to achieve that in Pruszków. Apart from that Cody also received nomination for Best In Show.

Judge from Estonia admitted EX1 also to Elma, who she really liked for shape of a head, setting of eyes and ears. She also liked her contrast. Elma is 4 years old already and this breed gets darker with age and contrast can fade. But luckily our girl still has it 😉

Atmosphere was really good. We’ve met many ur friend breeders and made some new ones. We’ve got many visits, for which we’d like to say big Thank You! There was a few friends from Bydgoszcz, few owners of my little patients also some cheering up for Helen, who they know from her visits in my work. We also got visits from owners of our kittens which always makes us happy. Especially that not everyone actually live in Toruń 😉 We’d like to thank Magda and Ada for support and help with taking photos and caring for the cats when we had to take them for the comparison at once.
