Review from International Cat Show in Toruń – February 2017
Before St Valentines Dat we decided to spend a weekend in Toruń on an International Cat Show. Our main goal was to let Cody get familiar with show tmosphere again. We didn’t pay so much attention to completing titles (still evaluation gives us some feedback). On this show Cody is still in kittens class and next weekend he turns 10 months. It means that even if he receives first two notes for Junior Champion, he won’t be able to finish it as he will be in another age category.
We have some ambitious plans for Cody when it comes for titles and shows so there is going to be a lot more evaluations for him and for us. That’s also why we decided to go even now, so he can get used to everything sooner. If he knows everything now, it will be easier to deal with all this noises, smells and audience in the future.
To prevent Cody from feeling lonely, we took some cat support – Elmirka. Her current show class requires a note frome the show abroad so she didn’t need to be evaluaded now but she took part in a separate part of the show called WCF Ring.
But our cats like to prove us that we can make plans, but life won’t care. Few days before the show Elmirka got in heat. Because untill we complete all the shows we plan, we decided not to mate her, we had to keep her separete from Cody at the show. He is maturing and stat to get attracted by “female charm”. So they could see, smell, talk and even eat right next to each other, but nothing else – they were on the oppostite sides of a cage wall. Anyway Elma was a bit annoyed during “these days” by any adoration.
During Saturday part of the show Cody was in Open Class for kittens 6 – 10 months of age. He got to be evaluated by judge from Germany – Cornelia Hungerecker.
We could tell Cody was a bit stressed but he overcame it and he managed very well during evaluation. He even didn’t try to climb up on my hands and he presented himself on the table.
He got checked all around and he even proudly presented hiss balls, especially when rubbed above his tail. I had to explain he’s not trying to be rude and he is just proud to posses such a “jewellery” 😉 The judge notes our boy Excellent – EX 1 and awarded with nomination for Best In Show!

Nomination for Best In Show was a joy for two reasons. One – it’s a distinction that doesn’t have to be admitted and is given if the judge particulary likes the cat. Second – it was another opportunity for Cody to get familiar with a different sutiation at the show. So even when they combinet category IIIth and IVth in Best In Show competition and Cody lost with a british shorthair cat, we didn’t really get sad.
In the WCF Ring Elmirka was representig thai breed. All the cats were descibed by the judge from Ukraine – Tatyana Diatschuk. The same judge was checking out our Helen for regular evaluation for International Champion at a show year ago.
WCF Ring is a competition where any cat in the same age category can take part in not minding the breed or sex. Judge who runs the ring presents all the cats one by one and then according to a subjective evaluation gives places from 10 to 1 no matter how many cats were taking part.

On Saturday comparison there was around 20 cats but Elmirka wasn’t in the first ten.
On Sunday Cody and Elma were chilled out during their stay at the cage and with the judges.

Cody got to be evaluated by judge Albert Kurkowski, (who he knows from a previous World Cat Show in Pruszkow in October last year). Judge spoke very well about or little boy. He complemented his color contrast, eyes color and ear setting and direction.
Once again Cody received nomination for Best In Show and again the classes of III and IV were combined together. But this time he won with a british shorthair male with votes 3:1. Next he was compared with a british shorthair female who arrived for the show all the way from Russia. Cody was awarded with Best Opposite Sex title.

We went home very happy. Trophy for Best Opposite Sex will enrich our collection so far. But we have more satisfaction with how our cats handled the entire show, how Cody gets used to its’ conditions while waiting in the cage and with the judges. He even got amused by a cotton candy and tried to play with it 🙂 I think we can say that main goal of this weekend was achieved 😉

We’d like to thank all of those who came to meet us and show some support during the show. It’s always better to see familiar faces and friendly people around 🙂
