Uno Viosna*PL

Thai kitten Uno Viosna*PL is our first only child in out purebred thai catttery Viosna*PL. He is a son of Helen (Grand International Champion) and Cody (National Champion).

From the very beginning, Uno special in a way. For the first time, since we run the cattery, it happened that we had an only child in the litter. The whole pregnancy was without any troubles, but we were a bit worried about the delivery. With only one kitten, it’s very hard to count properly the exact date of delivery. Even with known mating date and regular ultrasound measurements. We were also afraid that the baby may be a big one (as it has no “competition” for nutritional supply) and can cause a difficult labor. There were no abnormalities in ultrasound nor X-ray. But still inside I always have this worry, that something can go wrong.
The delivery date was calculated for the last weekend of September. We were staying with Helen since Friday. We’ve noticed some early signs of labor but both Saturday and Sunday nothing has happened. On Monday Tomek had to go to work and I’ve stayed with Helen at home. I was trying to prepare myself for possible caesarian section. Prolonging pregnancy can be dangerous both for the mother and a child. And still I was worried if Helen can handle a single kitten pregnancy delivery. Around 8 a.m. I gave her an ultimatum. Either she goes into labor before noon or we go for c-section. Seems she got it as she had first contractions at 12:00. Twenty minutes later, Uno was born without any problems 🙂

At first, Uno was a typical momma’s boy. And no need to wonder – he got all her attention as he didn’t have any siblings. There was a very strong bond between him and Helen and it took some time before it got a little loose. As Uno was growing up, he started to more independent, He was getting out of the cat room, started having naps in different places without mom. He even started to play with other cats and discover new places at home on his own.

As his mom, Uno is a bit of individual. Cuddling has to be only when he wants it. Otherwise he tries to slip through our hands. When he is unsuccessful, he complains a lot and sometimes even shows he’s frustration and tries to eat my sleeves. If you’re patient enough, he finally gives up and then he even happens to fall asleep in my arms. Luckily in some cases with cuddling he is also as his dad. He likes to sleep under the covers, lying next to us. Or he steals a place on my pillow and keeps it all to himself. Both after mom and dad, he is a real talker. Especially when he wakes up. That is also the moment he likes to pet the most.

As he has no siblings, he plays most with Helen. Sometimes you can tell that she has enough of it. At first, she was hiding where he couldn’t reach. But in time he managed to get anywhere he wanted. Uno also likes to play with his dad and Cody has unlimited patience for him. Only uncle Dziabąg doesn’t let him dominate and put him back in his place. This is not always good as Helen then defends her son no matter which of them was right. Unfortunately Helen appears to be a weird mom who prefers stress free – upbringing. It’s hard to by surprised as Uno is the only child 😉

Being an only child was also one of our worries as he has no siblings to play with. Luckily, he turns out to be smart enough to handle himself pretty well. He can even make a toy out of anything – cotton buds and hair ties are typical cat weaknesses. But Uno can also play with orchid leaf, bottle cap, paper from a candy or even a skittle. One of his favorite cat toys is a furry ball with catnip that he fights with for “life and death”. He also loves to play in a tunnel. Sometimes he gets so involved that he starts in the cat room and ends up in the hallway or bathroom. He even goes to the cat room on his own to play with a tunnel ball. He can even spend half an hour with it, especially when there is someone pushing the ball from time to time.

Uno is also comfortable in games with other cats and people. He even happens to fetch toys as both of his parents do. He loves when we throw it in a difficult place and he has to think hard how to get them out. You can tell he is intelligent and likes new challenges. Well, all you need to do is take a look of this face to know he won’t satisfy with an easy ball 😉

Despite his temperament and energy, Uno is not a destroyer. Even when he played with w window draper, he didn’t scratch it at all. He knows how to use scratching posts (and he also climbs them pretty well) as well as carton scratching boards.

When it comes to appearance, Uno is more like his dad. As well as Cody, he is pretty slim, has a nice, long tail and well-placed ears. Of course, he also has the same color as his father 😉

Uno is very cheerful and social. He likes to be in the center of the attention, but he also finds it good enough just to be there, when something is going on. He helps with cleaning the litterboxes, walks on the desk when I work on my laptop, hangs around the kitchen as we eat etc. He also likes to sleep in the hallway, in the middle part of the house, on his favorite green pillow. Scratching trees and shelfs are also a good place to take a nap, as he can easily observe things from up there.
